Reverend Kennedy Young, Jr. is a distinguished spiritual leader whose life mission is deeply rooted in the principles of faith, service, and education. His fervent commitment to sharing his faith, connecting individuals to Christ and His church, teaching sound doctrine, and glorifying God permeates every aspect of his ministry. Born in Odessa, Texas, to Pastor Kennedy Young, Sr. and Marchelle Currie, he was profoundly influenced by his father’s thirty years of dedicated pastoral leadership. This early exposure cultivated in him a profound respect for ministry and a resolute commitment to the spiritual development of others.

Kennedy's seventeen year pastoral journey spans various geographic and cultural landscapes, commencing at the College Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Tyler, Texas, progressing to the East Gate Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, and currently burgeoning as the Senior Pastor of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles, California. In this pivotal role, he serves not merely the Pastor but as a beacon of inspiration and support, addressing the spiritual needs of his congregation while also engaging meaningfully with the dynamic and diverse greater Los Angeles community. His leadership is characterized by a nuanced understanding of urban ministry and a commitment to fostering inclusive spiritual environments.

Academically, Kennedy's qualifications are substantial, holding a bachelor's degree in pastoral ministry from The Criswell College in Dallas, Texas, and a Master’s degree in Ministry from Clamp Divinity School in Anderson, South Carolina. He is currently immersed in doctoral studies at Anderson University, where he specializes in organizational leadership. His doctoral research, titled "Exploring the Lived Experiences of Intergenerational Growth in African American Baptist Churches Using Adaptive Leadership," reflects a progressive and scholarly approach to understanding the complexities of church leadership and the intricate dynamics of community engagement across generations. This research aims to contribute significantly to the discourse on adaptive leadership within the African American Baptist context, fostering a deeper understanding of how intergenerational relationships can enhance church vitality and community outreach.

Kennedy is profoundly dedicated to nurturing the growth and resilience of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, which boasts a rich historical legacy. His ministry is marked by expository preaching, intercessory prayer, and strategic leadership consultation, all of which are designed to empower his congregation and cultivate a culture of impactful community servant leadership. Through these efforts, he seeks to fulfill the Great Commission, encouraging active participation in outreach initiatives that reflect Christ’s love and compassion.

In his personal life, Kennedy is happily married to Rayna, and together, they are proud parents of three children: Imani, Blake, and Keegan. He values quality family time and actively participates in 3-5k races, reflecting his commitment to health and well-being. Additionally, he is an avid reader, consistently engaging with a diverse array of literature that expands his knowledge and deepens his understanding of faith, leadership, and community dynamics.
